My story

Name: Lilly
Suspected Breed(s): Boxer Mix
Gender: Female
Age: 3 years
Weight: 54 lbs
Personality: Playful, goofy/funny, independent, smart, adaptable, outgoing, adventurous, gentle, affectionate, loyal, mischievous, eager-to-please, and easygoing.
Observations with Dogs: Lilly does great with other dogs and is even tolerant of impolite dogs.
Observations with Cats: Lilly would do best in a home without cats.
Observations with Kids: Gentle with kids 8 and up (younger children are untested).
House Training Progress: No recent accidents
Crate Training Progress: Does well in her crate
Location: DC area foster
Rescued From: Bladen County, NC
Additional Information: Lilly is a fun, nature-loving gal who is always interested in making new friends. Whether she is enjoying a long walk, or exploring the farmers market, she isn’t shy about asking for some pets! Lilly is very smart, people-oriented, and eager to please. Recently she has been working on expanding her already extensive vocabulary – so far she already knows her name, sit, this way, come and wait.

Attention from her human or treats? It’s a tough call which one Lilly loves the most! When not being showered with the attention she so deserves, Lilly likes to keep herself busy with a kong treat during the day while her people work from home. Plus, she loves a nice cool lick mat on a hot summer day!

Speaking of summer, Lilly is an avid gardener who is ready to jump in and help clear sticks when you’re working in the yard. Once her job is done she will plop down under a bush to supervise. Lilly is especially fond of watching wildlife, from afar of course. She has enjoyed watching deer, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, and even a fox. This nature lover is ready to find her forever home with you! Apply today to meet Lilly.

If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon.
Apply for a DOG: http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adoptable-dogs.html

City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDCK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model).

Adoption fees: Dogs - $425 (including puppies) unless noted; $200 for senior dogs

Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.
Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis.

Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained.

We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs.

Additional adoption info

1. Application: Interested adopters should fill out an application for the cat(s) or dog(s) you are interested in. Only one application is required, and it applies for all cats or dogs listed on your application. If you are interested in adopting both a cat and a dog, you must complete an application for each type of animal. Important Note Regarding Timing: We screen all applications to find what we believe will be the best environment for each particular cat or dog. If we believe that we currently have a potential match for you, our typical response time is within a week. If you do not receive a response within two weeks, please assume that we have not been able to find a good match. Please do not interpret a lack of response as a belief by City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties that you would not be able to provide a loving home for a cat or dog. 2. Applications Counselor: Approved Applicants will be assigned a volunteer applications counselor, who will review the application and have a brief conversation with each applicant to determine his/her needs and preferences. 3. Reference Checks: If applicable, CDR&CK will call the applicant’s veterinarian to ensure that previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and well cared for. CDR&CK will also call personal references listed on the application. 4. Renters/Condo Owners: For renters, CDR&CK will check with an applicant's landlord to ensure that cats and/or dogs are permitted and that the cat or dog of interest wouldn’t violate any size or breed restrictions. We also review condo association rules regarding pets. Home Visit: CDR&CK will visit each applicant’s home to see the environment where the cat or dog will live and answer any questions the applicant might have. 5. Adoption Contract: If the applicant is approved for adoption and decides to adopt the cat or dog, CDR&CK and the prospective adopter will enter into an adoption contract. The applicant will be required to pay an adoption fee, which helps cover our costs from spay/neutering (if age appropriate), microchipping, vaccinations and any other veterinary attention needed while in our care.
