Rogue von Bendorf is a gorgeous, 4-year-old German Shepherd with a bit of Husky thrown in. His previous owners couldn’t keep this sweetheart, but they had so many good things to say about him! He is housebroken and great with kids (even toddlers) and lived with small dogs (chihuahuas), but draws the line at cats. He seems to come already trained in his basic commands (sit, stay, lay, wait and shake) and will even wait patiently for his dinner. This young-at-heart boy loves being active. At the rescue he starts his day excited for his walk with a wagging tail and meets people and dogs well. He loves going for outings alongside other dogs and does great in his playgroups, he greets every dog with a “hello” but also likes to visit the people. Handsome Rogue has such a silly personality and gets excited even when you call his name. This lovable lug can’t wait to meet you!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
