My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tex! This sweet senior (12-13 years old) has a personality the size of TEXAS! He craves love and wags his tail when you tell him “Good Boy”. Tex walks great on leash and is completely house trained. He loves his foster brothers and sister and would like another dog/s (as long as they are mild mannered like him) in the home. We think he would be okay with cats. He does need a secure fence (he can get through wrought iron), no short chain link and no electronic fencing. He recently had dental surgery to remove his remaining 24 teeth, so he is now toothless. He has recovered like a champ and eats wet food only. Despite his age Tex is very very healthy! And, is especially healthy since his infected teeth are removed! He is also neutered and current on all vaccinations. He is on Vetmedin for his mild heart murmur and will be for the rest of his life. We believe he is partially deaf. Tex can startle easily, and you have to let him know you are going to pick him up. He doesn’t ever try to snap, but is a little hesitant. He loves to lounge around during the day. He does have some separation anxiety but calms down with routine and love. His foster mom has never crated him. He is not destructive and sleeps all night on his bed in the bedroom with his foster brother. He does get anxious after being home alone for more than 3-4 hours, so he would be best in a home that can give him attention and allow him to explore the yard frequently. He really is an amazing, well-behaved boy who will fill your whole heart with love. Tex is very special to us. A home visit and a good vet reference are mandatory to adopt him. Tex requires a home with a yard and will not do well in an apartment. He will not do well in a home with kiddos. Russell Rescue does not ship/transport our dogs so his adopter must be able to drive to Houston, Texas to get him. If you are interested in Tex please go to www.RussellRescue.com and fill out the online adoption application. His adoption fee is $150. Contact: jamesejolley@gmail.com
