My story

Will you be the one who really sees me? The person who stops and looks into my amber eyes and decides to give me a chance?

My name is Nina and I have waited all my life to have a home. You are my hope.

My Physical Info

  • breed: retriever mix, but much smaller than the typical North American type

  • gender: female

  • age: 2 years

  • weight: 31lb (14.2kg)

  • height: 21 inches (53cm)

My Rescue Story

I was just a small puppy when I was put in a cardboard box with my 4 litter mates and left at the side of a busy highway. Presumably whoever did that didn't care if we died of dehydration and starvation.

Fortunately, a caring person picked up the box and took us to the local shelter. I've been here ever since, as has my sister Nunu, who is also on this site.

My Temperament.

I am a quiet dog and a little shy with strangers, though I do like to do 'high-five' with you if you crouch down and reach out your hand to me.

https://youtube.com/shorts/ssLvLH8Y2Jw?feature=share  Once I know you I enjoy being petted and will roll on my back and look up at you with gentle eyes asking for more.

All the other dogs here are comfortable around me because of my friendly nature.

My Energy Level:

Moderate.

Since I know every inch of this place and there's not a lot of opportunity to go out and explore, I tend to spend much of my time lying around or playing with the other dogs. It's quite likely that, once I am familiar with my new life, I will enjoy going for long walks with you. Right now that's not something I ever do.

I get along with:

  • dogs: yes

  • cats:  unknown

  • kids: probably fine with older kids who accept my shyness

Training:

  • leash skills: being on leash is new to me but my rescuer will be trying to get me used to it before adoption. Please be patient with me while I become familiar with my environment and start with walks in quieter places at first.

  • house trained: this is also new to me as I haven't lived in a house. Here I am able to choose a spot outside to do my business. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn.

Health notes:

I am spayed and vaccinated.

Adoption Fee;

My adoption fee of $800 + tax includes my airfare to Vancouver.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 8 years of age, though each potential match will be considered on a case by case basis.  More information can be found on our website

More about this rescue

Loved At Last Dog Rescue operates in the Greater Vancouver area. We rescue and rehome local dogs as well as homeless dogs from numerous countries around the world, including Mexico, Korea, China, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain and India. Many of these dogs have experienced hardship and cruelty yet they are gentle and loving. We have found that dogs who have experienced suffering appreciate every kindness shown them. All our dogs are fully vaccinated, microchipped and those over 6 months are spayed or neutered.
