My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTER NEEDED: ROMEY 9 month old black Lab mix 82 lbs. not neutered

Background:Romey started his life in Shingle Springs when sadly his owner passed. He was in a house where he played with 3 large dogs. He was then put on NextDoor and subsequently adopted by a woman who doesn’t feel that he is the right fit for her.

What The Shelter Says:Spike doesn't attempt to escape and is house trained. He is not destructive, but does like to chew up paper towels. His former owner kept him indoors when left alone. Spike approaches the front of his shelter kennel to meet people and is quiet and friendly. He does pull moderately on leash. He has felt more comfortable in the last few days at the shelter and is now leaning in with staff for hugs and putting his head on laps for love. Spike is a shelter favorite and is hoping to land in a soft comfortable place soon.

What Their Rescue Rep Says: Romey is a big puppy and will continue to fill out. He gets spooked by new noises and would benefit by a calm household. He is very calm for his age but very cautious of new people and new situations yet he does warm up to you. Does not show any aggression.

When we entered his home, he had licks for us and took treats from our hands. He has a very soft mouth, is treat motivated and knows sit and down. He wants to please. He has recently learned how to fetch. He will also roll over for belly rubs. Romey does not chew on inappropriate items. He does well riding in the car.

Romey jumped the owner’s 6’ fence once when left in the yard alone after he first arrived. Once he feels he belongs, this will probably not happen. In the meantime, he should not be left in the yard alone. He needs consistency to build his confidence. Romey is house broken. He is not crate trained but the owner is working on it. No cats or young kids in the home please. Older kids (teenagers) might be okay but only if they and the adults in the household are calm.

Medical: Romey has seen a vet and is healthy and up to date on vax. He will need to be neutered (Lab Rescue will arrange), chipped and Heartworm tested.
