Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Spike – Foster Needed for 11-year-old neutered male black Lab
Background:Spike was surrendered to the Sonoma County shelter as his owner was no longer able to care for him. They said they owned him for 14 years, but the vet hospital states they have him aged 11. Owner said he is good with other dogs, good with children, and chases cats [not so good]. The shelter feels at his age it would be quite difficult to chase cats. At our request, the shelter walked Spike by other dogs and cats and pigs without issue. We are so happy that he gets along with pigs.
What The Shelter Says:Spike doesn't attempt to escape and is house trained. He is not destructive, but does like to chew up paper towels. His former owner kept him indoors when left alone. Spike approaches the front of his shelter kennel to meet people and is quiet and friendly. He does pull moderately on leash. He has felt more comfortable in the last few days at the shelter and is now leaning in with staff for hugs and putting his head on laps for love. Spike is a shelter favorite and is hoping to land in a soft comfortable place soon.
What Their Rescue Rep Says: Let's get this sweet older gentleman out of the shelter. Glad the shelter reached out to us for help. Spike needs a foster/adopter home that will allow him to be the older guy that he deserves to be at this time in life. He stumbles a bit due to age from time to time and maybe waning eyesight. It doesn't seem to make a difference to his huge smile. Looking for foster/adopter to give him loved and care. If you have pigs, even better.
Medical: Neutered. According to shelter he is up to date on shots. No health concerns, other than age. Several tests recommended due to age. Needs to put on a few pounds.
