My story

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks
the CPR Adoption team

Date into Rescue: 2/19/2021
Reason for being in rescue: Macey was removed from her breeder by animal control and taken to a shelter. Carolina Poodle Rescue pulled her from the shelter.
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Macey was spayed and had a dental on 2/25/21. She is up to date on all vaccines and heartworm negative. She also had a dew claw removed on 2/24/21.
Weight: 35 lbs
Height: 20 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $200

Fence needed? Yes

What kind of home would be best for me? Macey lived with her breeder for five years prior to
arriving in rescue in February 2021. She is great with other dogs and requires a home with at
least one other medium or large confident dog for companionship. She has worked really hard
on learning to trust humans and is looking for a low key environment. She is not for a home
with young children.

Macey has learned what home life is all about after moving in with her foster mom in February
2023. She took about 3 days to settle into a routine and immediately made friends with the 4
dogs and ignores the 3 cats. She is no longer leash shy and has never messed in the house.
She sees her crate as her safe spot but is also comfortable when not in it. Macey loves being
outdoors, walks in the woods, wading in streams, and car rides. She gets so excited when
getting leashed up - lots of smiles and tail wagging. She is a little timid at first when introduced
to new experiences and resists going into unfamiliar buildings. Macey is continuing to learn
basic commands and would benefit from additional training to build her confidence. Her
previous hand feeding in rescue has taught her to have a very gentle mouth. Macey is a quiet,
beautiful gal with the softest ears.

Macey is crate trained and does not require someone at home during the day, but does need an
occasional break. She is an all-around great dog looking for a home that knows it will take a
little time to earn her trust and has another dog or dogs for companionship.

What is my personality like? Macey is a shy girl but warms up to both men and women.
Removed from her breeder by animal control, we are unsure how much (if any) socialization she had prior to arriving in rescue. Not surprisingly, Macey adores dogs and loves to play with
canine companions. She is intrigued by people and always so excited to see her caregivers,
but sometimes wary. You can tell this beautiful girl with the heart of gold is eager to build trust
and be loved as a companion.

Macey plays well in her play groups at the rescue. She is always the first one out and one of
the last ones in on sunny days. Macey adores food and has no aggression at all toward her
food. Macey has a lot of potential and has come a long way since being in rescue. She is very food motivated so that will make training easier in addition to her just being naturally smart. Her
leash walking is good but she does still tend to try to back out if she thinks things are moving too fast and she gets scared. Her caregivers have committed to hand feeding her her food and that has worked wonders in teaching her humans are friends and to gain her trust. Though shy she is a super sweet girl looking for a home dedicated to her and looking for that rewarding
experience of gaining the trust and love of a dog that needs them.

It has been said that the best gifts are worth the wait. Beautiful Macey will be so worth the effort
to earn her trust and teach her to love!

How do I act when I first meet new people? Shy but curious

Other tips and tidbits: Macey's estimated birthday is 2/19/2016

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
