My story

Roman was surrendered to the shelter because the other dog in the house didn't take too kindly to sharing! Roman is a young cattle dog mix, so he's very high energy. He would likely do best in a home with no other dogs or cats - or an easy going, submissive female dog. Kids will need to be older, over the age of 12, due to his high energy levels. Before contacting the shelter or stopping by to visit the animals, please submit an adoption application through this link:https://www.cognitoforms.com/DaviessCountyAnimalShelter/DaviessCountyAnimalShelterAdoptionAndFosterApplicationYou must have an approved adoption application on file before coming to meet the animals. It can take up to 7 business days for the application to be processed and approved. We will notify you once the process is complete, by phone or email.Incomplete applications will delay the process and may not be processed.Dog adoptions are $100 and includes the spay/neuter, microchip & Rabies Vaccines.Submission of the adoption application is not a guarantee that the animal you are applying for will be available to you. We do not hold dogs during the application process; the animal could be adopted by a previously approved adopter or pulled by a rescue group. The reason why we do not hold animals during the adoption process is this: to help keep our euthanasia rates down. The Daviess County Animal Shelter does not participate in the Managed Intake movement; we are still an open door facility. We are required to take in ANY animal (from a Daviess County resident), regardless of how full the shelter may be or the health or temperament of the animal being surrendered. When an animal has the opportunity to be adopted or go to rescue, we have to do so to keep kennel space available. We take in dozens of animals nearly each and every day. (Sometimes A LOT more, sometimes less.)We believe it is in the best interest of all animals to keep an open door mentality - unwanted animals need an immediate place of shelter and protection, and the Daviess County Animal Care & Control is dedicated to providing such a life saving service for the furry & feathered companions of our county.

More about this shelter

The Daviess County Animal Shelter receives thousands of animals annually. Some of them are returned to their owners, some find new homes, but unfortunately some are never placed in a home. This is why it is so important that these animals find new homes.
