Name: Happy Go Hummer
From: Egypt
Breed: Tiger Egyptian Mou
Colour: Ginger
Gender: Male
Age: App. 1 year, 7 months
Good with cats: Yes
Good with cat-friendly dogs: Never been tested
Good with kids: Yes
Neutered, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and treated for worms and fleas.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HISTORY: Hummer was 8 weeks old when his rescuer saw kids beating him with a wooden stick on the streets of Egypt. They were trying to kill him. The lady who witnessed this pulled the kids away, immediately grabbed Hummer and took him home. She contacted a rescue group who agreed to take him.
When he arrived at the foster, he was starving and scared. The foster noticed right away that he was jerky in his movements. It was concluded that this was the result of the beating.
As time passed and Hummer moved into adulthood, the jerkiness has subsided for the most part. It still shows up, mildly, when he is excited or happy to interact and chat with you. However, when he is focused, when he is chasing a ball, for example or when he is relaxed on your lap, the jerkiness is completely gone. Other than that, Hummer is 100% healthy. There are no long term issues expected as a result of this.
PERSONALITY: Named for the purr machine that he is, Hummer’s foster Mom says he is, “the most happy, content and delightful little guy. He is truly special.”
Though he is a little cautious at first, once he knows he is safe with you, he will shower you with affection and be the most devoted lap cat. He loves to sit on your chest and be kissed.
This handsome lad simply adores humans. Nothing excites him more than being with his human. Hummer is only too happy to engage his human in play, chat or just hanging out watching Netflix together.
Confident and playful, Hummer loves batting at the ball in the circle toy (as you can see in the video). This athletic hunk also loves climbing up the cat tree. Strong and still having kitten energy (typical of a Mau), Hummer can go from 0 to 100 in a flash. :)
When he is in relax mode, he enjoys looking out at the birds and squirrels checking out the latest episode of Nature TV.
Hummer is fine with children 10+ as long as they are calm and respectful (i.e. no pulling his tail or picking him up against his will).
He is also fine with other cats but doesn’t really interact with them. Humans are his jam. :)
IDEAL HOME ENVIRONMENT: The sweet Soul will liven up any home with his beautiful energy. He is best suited to a calm, quiet and stable home where he can give and get love from his human and never have to fear being harmed again.
More about this rescue
PINK Animals to the Rescue (or PINK Rescue) is a small rescue located in Toronto, Canada. We believe animals rescue us rather than the other way around. This is because they love us unconditionally no matter what. And in so doing, they teach us how to love unconditionally no matter what.
Some of our pets are local but most are from Egypt. Compassion knows no borders so why should we? We believe we are ONE world.
Our mission is to bring Love to every single creature we can.
Our goal is to achieve a world where no animal is left behind.
From the streets alone to home sweet home.
Because we do home visits before we adopt any animal out, we can only adopt in the Greater Toronto area which is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Toronto.
Adoption Fee:
Our adoption fee is determined on a cost-recovery basis. Because the animals come from abroad, there are many more costs involved than there is for a local rescue. These include flight, broker, international carrier, inspection, terminal, duties, rabies titre test fees, etc.
Our goal is to help as many homeless cats and dogs on the streets of Egypt as we can. The fee you pay helps the Egyptian rescues recover their costs. Not only are you saving this animal's life, you are also helping to save another animal's life because the pet you just brought home has now opened up a space for the rescues in Egypt to offer to another animal in need.
Why do we do it? Because all lives matter. These animals are literally refugees in their own country. To us, every animal, no matter where they come from, deserves to be loved as much as any other animal.
For us, the answer is simple and worth repeating. Compassion knows no borders.
True Love is priceless.
Adopting a rescue vs a pure bred:
In our view, rescued animals have as much value as any "pure-bred" animal does. We are astonished that people are willing to pay thousands of dollars for a "pure-bred" cat or dog yet they question paying $800 for a rescued cat that comes from a third world country.
They don't question people who do this for a living but they question people who volunteer their time, resources and even contribute funds personally. What does this say about the world we live in?
FACT: Breeders make money off of animals. We don't.
FACT: Breeders get paid for their time and effort. We don't.
FACT: There are too many unwanted animals as it is. We don't need to encourage and support bringing even more onto the planet.
We are unapologetic and have zero tolerance for an industry that promotes the trafficking of animals for profit. "Breeding" is just a politically correct - and legal - word for the trafficking of an innocent species for the sake of profit. It is no different than human trafficking and that is illegal. Why isn't this?
To adapt Mahatma Gandhi's quote to a global level, "“The greatness of a world and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
'nuff said.
