A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.

Date into Rescue: 9/21/2020
Reason for being in rescue: Cody came from a feral colony. The product of living as a feral is that Cody didn't get to have people socialization when he was growing up. He has most likely never been a home before.
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Cody is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and heartworm negative. Behaviorally Cody will need help in behavior modification.
Weight: 45 lb
Height: 18 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Adoption Fee: $200
Fence needed? Yes. Cody would be a flight risk dog until he learns the routine of the home. This is something that may take a long time for him to settle into. Because of this it is imperative that Cody be kept safe by having a fenced in yard to secure him.
What kind of home would be best for me? Cody needs a very experienced owner that understands shy, undersocialized, or feral dogs. He is not for a first time dog owner and will not be adopted to a home without experience rescuing and helping rehabilitate dogs. Cody requires another confident dog in the home. It does not matter what size - he needs a confident canine buddy to follow, learn from, and model behaviors. Cody will not be placed in a home with children. Sudden movements and loud noises make him very nervous. He needs a quiet, consistent, patient environment.
Cody has never lived in a home which means that everything will be new for him. Potty training, leash work, ect.. will all need to be worked on. He has many things he finds aversive and will need a home willing to devote a lot of time into behavior modification.
What is my personality like? Cody is skittish but curious about humans and how we work. So far he has learned that humans will give him a safe place to sleep where he doesn't constantly have to look over his shoulder. He's learned he won't go hungry as long as humans are near. Cody still has a ways to go but he is getting there. Cody is learning how to walk on a leash and does very well with it although he still needs work with it. He has never been on a leash until he came to the rescue.
Cody is great with other canines. He can express and read body language very well with other dogs. His background of living with a large group of dogs outside of a home environment meant that learning how to communicate with other dogs was vital for him. He mirrors other dog behavior which is one of the reasons we are seeking another confident dog in the home.
Cody's caregivers have been working to gain his trust with hand feeding and working on his leash walking. His leash walking is still a work in progress but it helps he is VERY food motivated so any time he is unsure food will warm him up quickly. Cody is quirky, he can be vocal and even let out some howls at times. He does very well with the routine a structure here at the rescue and would like a home to mimic this and a home that understands it might take him a second to get into the swing of things in his new environment. Cody has been known to nip on the behind to get your attention when you aren't looking.
How do I act when I first meet new people? Cody is timid and shy when he meets new people. He will not be the type of dog to walk in the room with a wagging tail happy to greet anyone. He will take time in the home to open up.
Other tips and tidbits: Cody's estimated birthday is 9/13/2016. He is great with all dogs and even cats. It is essential that training is priority for Cody and his forever family. Cody has a lot of potential and will need just the right home to help bring out the best in him.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
