My story

Hello! My name is RITA (short for "Negrita") and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Black Lab Mix

  • Age: approx. 1-2 Years

  • Gender: Female

  • Weight: 44 lbs

RESCUE STORY - I was found on the streets of Puebla, Mexico. My rescuer thinks I was abandoned and had been on the streets for many months due to the dismal condition I was found in. I had been surviving off of eating garbage, stones, and anything else I could find. I was pregnant when I was rescued and after having my litter of pups, I was spayed. I have received vet care and was nursed back to tip-top shape. I dream of being adopted and having a family who loves me as much as I deserve (which is a LOT!).

TEMPERAMENT - I am one sweet pup! Despite my troubled start to life, I am incredibly loving and I'm a well behaved, sweet-natured gal. I love hanging out with humans and I enjoy the company of other doggies. I am very sweet although slightly timid. I'm not particularly skittish, I just need a little bit to warm up to new people and new situations. Once I feel comfortable, you'll see my true personality shine through! My rescuer says that I am so full of love, however sadly, I've not had nearly enough in my life so far. I hope my new family can love me extra!

ENERGY LEVEL - Moderate - My rescuer says once I come out of my shell, I am a total goof and sweetheart. I will need regular exercise (as all young doggies do!) however I'm pretty chill in the house. I love to spend time in the backyard and I LOVE to play with toys (check out my video- such joy I have!)

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown. I am a gentle, sweet young girl but I haven't officially been tested with children.

  • Dogs – Yup! I live with many other dogs and we get along just dandy- check it out (video1) (video 2)

  • Cats – Unknown

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Work in progress.  I'm living in a shelter and don't get walked on leash here, so I will have some learning to do in my furever home.

  • House trained – Almost completely! My foster home has taught me where it is appropriate to do my business and I'm successful the majority of the time. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me continue to learn in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP will provide 1 complimentary training session with Hannah before the finalization of your adoption. WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am spayed and vaccinated. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I receive a monthly pill to prevent heartworm.

  • NOTE: dogs from this region in Mexico are not microchipped. This will be the responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

  • My adoption fee is $750.00 CAD + applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.

WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.
