My story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

It is important you research the cat’s lifestyle and needs to make sure that they fit yours – just as you would ensure compatibility with a human, you are committing to share your life for 15+ years. Please take the time to read ALL information provided.

PERSIA was saved with her kittens from a shelter in the south. PERSIA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and microchipped. She has an estimated date of birth or 10 March 2020. We cannot say for sure what breed she is, so we expect families to do their own research on her look and size and decide what breed you think she is and if you have the lifestyle suitable for her needs.

PERSIA now all her kittens have been adopted has started to enjoy life, she is very affectionate, she will always check out whatever food I am eating and see if she can sneak a taste, she plays with the other cats and she will stand her ground with the dogs. She is litter box trained, loves watching the birds, squirrels and chip monks out of the window.

PERSIA is located at Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec and is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $150.

Cat Application form:  https://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org/forms/form?formid=6368

We are looking for a family that has time for a kitten / cat and understands that cats can live on average for 13-20 years, however, it is not uncommon for cats to leave over 25 years and so this is a long-term commitment.

Families must be prepared to provide cat trees and stimulation toys for the cat/s to play with and provide a healthy, mentally stimulating and fulfilling life. They must understand the importance of being familiar with common medical concerns such as urinary tract disease. Cats are known to mask illness and disease very well, and they don't often show any symptoms until they are very ill

All cats are fed a variety of wet and dry food, which varies in brands. They have clumping cat litter, but again varying brands and types from the clay to the more environmental friendly ground shells and such.

You MUST understand that cats need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the "3 Point Rule" Days 1-3 your cat is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your cat is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3-month point, your cat understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the ADOPTION INFO tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 1-2 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then we can schedule your appointment to come to the rescue in Sebec, Maine for meet/greet/adopt

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

ALL Cats are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx. 8 miles) and approx. 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.

More about this rescue

Founded by Jenny an English woman who found her way to Texas on 14th February 2011 in San Antonio, Texas we saved dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas. In July 2015, Jenny relocated herself and the rescue to the beautiful state of Maine, it's weather and people much like that of her home in Northern England. We still save dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas where dogs have just 3 days to be saved. We vet them, they have veterinary examination and are issued with health certificates and then transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine.
