My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mattie!

*Mattie's adoption fee has been sponsored In Loving Memory of Mary Grotzke- "She finally has her life back".

Hello, my name is Mattie. I'm a distinguished lady at 11 years old, and I weigh about 18 pounds. I get along with other dogs, and would do best with another one (or more!) in my forever home. I'm a little shy, but foster mom says I'm starting to come around and I love to cuddle. I had my ailing/blind eyes taken out several months ago, and am much more comfortable without them! I have even started to try to play with others a bit! I'm not fond of thunderstorms, so my foster mom holds me real close when they happen. As much as I like other dogs, and even cats, I'd really prefer not sharing my chewies with them, and will let them know to give me my space when they get to close if I have one, but foster mom takes it away so it doesn't go any further than a grumble. I don't ever tell her I don't want her near when I have them though, and I don't react negatively if there is food around. I'm not afraid to ask my humans for hugs and love, but when you're done I'm fine with going and laying down. Foster mom says I need someone who will let me sit by them on the couch because I haven't really ever been shown much love, and now I should have it for the rest of my life.

I'm a pretty chill, laid back dog and would love a calm environment for my new home, with no small kids please. Since I don't have eyes, they might spook me a bit. I am not super leash savvy, so I would really need a home that has a fenced yard. I do really well in the car, and don't make a peep. Speaking of being quiet, I don't even bark when others bark, I'm that quiet! I'm potty trained, and use pee pads if needed when you are away for longer periods of time. Now I just need a loving home for the rest of my days. Please don't let me not having any eyes scare you. Maybe a single person and their dog looking for companionship? Maybe a retired couple who has some extra time and love to give? Maybe it'll be you?!

Disclaimer: It is VERY difficult even for a veterinarian to tell the exact age of a dog over two years old. From one vet to another, we can get different age estimates on the same dog and they can vary by several years. We are only making an educated guess based on a few factors like teeth, fur color, and overall body condition, but for dogs who have not been given adequate vet care and food, it can be even more difficult. Every dog is an individual, and we do our very best to age appropriately but make no guarantees as to the age of any dog in our program.
