My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Luke is a good looking 4-year-old tricolor beagle who was turned in to HBHR by his owner due to a change in the owner’s living situation. He is a 15-inch beagle and weighs 35 lb., which is about perfect for his height.

Luke is at that age when beagles are active and playful, but over the crazy puppy antics. He is calm and sweet and loves to cuddle. He knows the sit command. He occasionally enjoys playing with dog toys. His favorite game is “bounce and jump” to catch a tennis ball. He is perfect on housetraining and uses a dog door to go out to the yard to do his business, lie out in the sun, or be on the lookout for squirrels. He is friendly with other dogs, and respectful of the senior beagle in his foster home. He is not destructive and has not gotten into anything that belongs to the humans. He is tall enough that he could potentially counter surf, but that has not been an issue.
Luke has a good appetite but is very gentle when taking treats from your hand, so he would probably be fine around children. He occasionally barks at the neighbor’s dogs when he is out in the yard, and he has the beagle howl down pat. He likes to go on leash walks. When he sees the leash come out, he walks up to the door, sits calmly without being told to, and waits for his foster mom to put his leash on. He walks well on leash except when we encounter a rabbit or a squirrel on the trail. When that happens, he freezes on the spot, and needs some encouragement to move on.

Luke is crated when his foster family is not at home but has the run of the house during the night and chooses to sleep in one of the dog beds in the bedroom. He jumped on the human bed one time but was told to get off and has not tried to do it again. He is a quick learner and eager to please. This sweet boy is heartworm negative and would love to find a family to call his own. He likes to chase cats, so a home without cats would be best. A dog door and a doggie companion would be ideal. If you think Luke may be the dog for you, please fill out an application to meet him.
