Leash trained: somewhat, working on new experiences and not trying to wriggle out of collar when scared. But she walks with a loose leash if she's going where she wants to go?
Fenced in yard: most definitely a solid 5-6 foot fence.
Serenity was a very fearful girl when she came into her foster home but with time, patience and training which has given her structure she is making huge progress in her foster home. She is starting to come when called and starting to snuggle, instead of curling up under herself all the time. She is stretching out on the bed and letting me rub her belly! She loves treats. She is starting to become curious about her surroundings and will trot when outside instead of crouching low while walking. She LOVES chewing on her toys.
Serenity will definitely need a dog experienced family that can anticipate when she is nervous and act accordingly to help her learn to feel safe. She is very sweet, gentle and low energy. Serenity is quickly flourishing. She is getting closer to feeling secure in herself . Her family must be patient, kind, but a good leader and be willing to continue group training as this is where she is learning the most to feel comfortable. A secure 5-6 foot fence is a must until she is fully trained. Foster mom has been teaching her a language she can understand and she will pass on these words/commands on to her adopters.

More about this rescue
House of Hope Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Cecil County and is run by a 100% volunteer staff. Not a single donation dollar goes to pay anyone – it all goes to the medical care, transportation and fostering expenses needed to bring up dogs that have found themselves in high kill shelters in the Southern portion of the United States, through absolutely no fault of their own.
We primarily pull black lab mixes as they have the highest euthanasia rate of any other breed and color combination in the country, but we will also extend a helping hand to other breeds that we know we can place in good homes. No dog is too old, too sick, too injured, too untrained, or too “anything” for us to help; we rescue senior dogs, dogs that have been in car accidents, or shot, or burned, dogs that require hospice fostering due to terminal conditions, feral dogs that have never known human kindness, bonded pairs that need to be adopted together, just to name a few. At House of Hope, we believe there is a perfect home for each and every dog. We are committed to finding it for them.
If you are interested in volunteering please fill out our volunteer application.
