My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Goose!

Do you feel the need...the need for...CUTENESS? If the answer is yes, then check out this sequel! And by sequel, we mean this new set of adorable black puppies following close on the heels of our most recent black puppies. (What did you think we meant?)

Goose and his brother Maverick (see Maverick's separate post) are 4-month-old Labrador/German Shepherd mix boys, as far as we can tell. Snuggly and playful, they arrived in Colorado from an overcrowded Missouri shelter. Both are now in an amazing foster home where they are being loved and pampered, and making up for their first few unsure months by enjoying lots of play and nutritious food. These young cadets are settling in great, and their foster mom says they are outstanding pupils and the sky is the limit for their futures.

They're also flying high with their basic training, already mastering the skills of sit, down, come, and hand targeting. They're also practicing crate training, and do well for three hours at a time during the day, and six hours at night before needing to go outside. They both exhibit that exuberant energy of a healthy puppy, making them the perfect candidates for an adopter who perhaps has the summer off or who has a flexible work-from-home schedule.

They also are dialing in additional skills, taking walks around the neighborhood on leash wearing their harnesses. They know their call signals (i.e., their names) and are team players--they like to stick close to their human.

Maverick is a bit more of a maverick--he is more independent than his brother Goose in that he doesn't follow him around, but he can still be somewhat timid in unknown territory. He loves to play with all of his toys and is food motivated. He's close to being house trained, and is getting the hang of retrieving a ball. His favorite toys are the tug rope and anything with a squeaker. Maverick is all about the team and would strongly prefer a home with a resident dog to have his back.

Goose would prefer a permanent assignment (that is, permanent home) with a resident dog too, but handles flying solo better than his brother does, so we might consider a home without another dog if it's the perfect match.

Ideal forever homes would have a resident dog to help them build confidence and learn the ropes, especially for Maverick who could use a role model when it comes to confidence. Preference will be given to applicants who will embrace their need...their need...for adventure! (See how we did that...again? ;) ) An active home where they can hike or run and get the exercise they need, and a fenced yard for running and playing.

Note that these daredevils will only be adopted to separate homes, not the same home. And sorry, no apartments or condos as they need plenty of room to spread their wings and get ample daily activity.

For more info and/or to apply to adopt Goose or Maverick, send an email of inquiry to SummtDogRescue@yahoo.com. Tell us a bit about yourself, your home situation, and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you as soon as they can.
