My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Val is a rare breed - a shepcurcollie mix that weighs about 45 pounds. Say what? You've never heard of a shepcurcollie? It's the new rage that's sweeping the country! Val somehow got away from her family and was shepcurcollein around some rural parts until somebody picked her up and took her to the shelter. Unfortunately the shelter was full and her time was up. Thank heavens a rescue came and took her and a bunch of other unwanted dogs so they could have a second chance. Just picture the joy and happiness when a child goes to the beach and sees the ocean for the first time. Or the first time they go to a toy store or when they get to do something new like ride a pony! Imagine being able to be a part of that excitement every single day!!! That is what life with Val would be. Every time she goes for a walk her eyes light up and she looks all around - she is so happy to see everything from people to dogs to squirrels to trees to birds. She has come such a long way in the month or so she has been with her foster mom. She loves to walk, loves all people, and now she even enjoys playing with other dogs. She is still very much a puppy ( 1 - 2 years old) and wants so much to please her person. She will look at you with her big brown eyes and you can see the love. She is the perfect age - young enough to be lots of fun and enjoy learning, but already house trained and completely non-destructive in the house when left alone. Val gets excited and a little nervous when she meets new people or goes to visit but she will settle down nicely given time. She does like all children but since she tends to get pretty excited and would probably knock small ones down like a strike at a bowling alley, a home with no children older sturdier kids would be best. Her foster mom has her on a great routine and enjoying life. They go for a nice walk in the mornings and Val sometimes gets to go to the dog park. Then they come home exhausted and she lays around the house most of the day and rests. However, don't worry she will keep an eye on you and make sure nothing happens to you while you're home. So if you get up to go in another room Val may follow you there to make sure nothing bad happens to you and lay down in that room with you. Then after dinner in the evenings they go for another nice walk. She likes to lay on her foster mom's front deck when it's nice outside and watch people walking by and cars going by. And she like riding in cars too! She has a nice big fenced in backyard and she go out there sometimes to look around and maybe sit for a while but she may not stay out there too long because she wants to make sure that you're OK inside. So she'd much rather be inside with you than outside for very long. She is very interested in the cats, squirrels, and rabbits in her neighborhood so she would probably do best in a home without small animals. She loves water - laying down in the creek at the park and running through it are so much fun! She would love a home where somebody's home some and not gone all day. She gets sad when her person is not around for a really long periods of time. She would be perfectly happy being an only dog if you don't have one, but I do enjoy playing with them so maybe some trips to the dog park or a friend with another dog I could play with sometimes. So whadda ya' say! Are you ready to be the proud new parent of a 'shepcurcollie' named Val?

Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and are scheduling individual adoptions in the Waynesboro, VA area during the pandemic. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries.
