DONALD NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Donald Best Guess for Breed: Sheltie mix
Best Guess for Age: 8 years as of June 2022 SEX: Male
Approximate Weight: 30 lbs
Gets Along With: Donald has done well with other dogs in the shelter. We haven't seen him with kids but he can be tested. We have tested Donald with some of the cats at the shelter, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Donald could live with a cat, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack!
Currently Living at: Shelter; will need a foster or forever home in the DC area after completing heartworm treatment.
Special adoption considerations: Donald is heartworm positive. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Donald is scheduled to have treatment as soon as possible so the recovery process can begin. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.
Donald is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault at all of his own, this sweet older guy now needs a new home. He's out of the puppy yips and as an experienced dog, he knows what's most important - knowing he's under his own roof, safe and loved, for all his days. He's eager to trot through the world with his new humans and bestow upon them all the love and tail wags he's saving up in the shelter for all of the many, many, many wonderful days ahead!
What do you say? Is there a Donald-shaped hole in your lap and your life?
What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster
