My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you!

7/7/22 Foster Update: Cotton and Sugar are staying in a foster home and doing great! Their foster Dad tells us that Sugar is the lead girl and is more confident, and she is the first to go outside. Cotton does not bark but Sugar will sometimes bark at nothing! Both continue to be calm and sweet, and always together. They show no interest in getting on the furniture or bed, walk nicely on a leash, and get along with the resident cats. During recent thunderstorms Sugar managed to hide under a bed in spite of her size, but no terrible anxiety, and Cotton was fine with the storms. We have added a couple of indoor pictures in which you can see how close the girls stay together. They are truly bonded and happiest together!

Their Story: Cotton and Sugar are gorgeous bonded sisters! They were taken to a shelter when their owner married and her new husband decided he could not bond with these sweet dogs. We promised to find them a home where they can remain together!

Cotton and Sugar are 7 year old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mixes who are laid back, and as sweet as they are beautiful. The staff at the vet clinic where they are staying have never heard them bark, and they commented, "These are two chill girls!" They are social and well behaved, and they make a wonderful pair. Our volunteer photographer mentioned that they are oh-so-sweet, and that they are joined at the hip, always close together.

The larger of the two is Cotton (on the left in the close-up picture), who weighs 100 lbs and could stand to lose a few, but don't tell her we said that! Sugar is smaller, has a patch of gold fur on her hip, and one of her eyes is blue. Both have thick, lovely coats. In their pictures with scarves, Sugar is wearing the pink plaid scarf.

When our lead volunteer in the South visited them, Cotton came straight to the front of the kennel to greet her while Sugar stayed behind her. But when the kennel door was opened, it was Sugar who came straight out and Cotton followed. It seems Cotton takes her cues from sister Sugar. Both dogs get along well with other dogs, big and small, and both girls walk nicely on a leash. We have also learned they are fine with the cats in their foster home.

While we are still learning about Cotton and Sugar, don't hesitate to ask about them if you are interested in them. They are vaccinated, heartworm negative, and micro-chipped. Cotton was previously spayed, and Sugar will be spayed. They can travel to a new home together at the end of June or early July, so inquire soon!

Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to continue the rehabilitation we have begun.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
