NELSON is a 2-year-old cutie-patootie, total goofball who is interviewing families that can offer him a dog-free home, but cats are OK. NELSON recently had an offsite adventure... having the time of his life in a volunteer's backyard (see videos).
NELSON did well at a recent dog adoption event. He was fine with the other dogs and meeting strangers. He loves kids, but we just think that he is too big and puppy-like to be around small kids in the home.
NELSON knows sit and stay and is treat-motivated to learn more. NELSON is house-trained with a doggy door.
NELSON is making lots of dog friends at his boarding kennels. He goes on pack walks all the time and is a ham at any offsite event that includes lots of people. He walks well on leash, remembering to 'check in' with his handler.
NELSON takes treats with a gentle mouth and always wants to lay next to or on top of your feet, basically, as close as possible to you!
NELSON loves to zoom around the backyard and play with toys. He rides well in a car, but will try to be as close as possible to you. He is just grateful for you spending time with him!
NELSON is neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $225.

BACKGROUND: NELSON was found in the desert when he was 8 weeks old with the rest of his litter. He was apparently used as a bait dog and he was the only survivor. He was taken in by a Good Samaritan (former animal control officer) who didn't want to see him used as a bait dog for dog fighters. He was living with two dogs and a cat. He played with the resident female dog, but older resident dog kept starting fights with him. The situation was no longer safe for the older people in the home, so they needed to rehome him. FFAR rescued NELSON in June 2022. He was lucky to be living in a foster home with an older gentleman and a cat for a few weeks, but NELSON was just too much dog for an almost 80-year-old.
