My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Paxton is an amazing puppy, deserving a home to call his own. He is just over 1 year old, born 03/22/21, and is a really great dog.

He is loveable with other dogs he meets as well as people and has no behaviour issues noted. He can get a little mouthy when he gets super excited, but he continues to do really well and responds to commands to settle himself back down.

He is not a fan of cats, so a cat free home is a must.

He missed out on informative puppy training, so should work with a professional trainer to help him with basic training he missed out on in his most informative years: leash training, greeting people, sit/stay etc.

His core is solid and he's already on his way being a super kind boy, so you've got a great base to work with.

He currently weighs in around 120 pounds! He's a big boy and likely could stand to lose a bit of weight as I know his foster Mom loves to give him treats because he's such a sweet dog and he's been in their care for almost 6 months now,

Paxton did have a molar extracted due to chronic issues with the tooth at the root level, but this will not cause any further issue for him as the tooth is now gone.

Paxton was surrendered due to mild hip dysplasia as a young puppy and though his hips are slightly imperfect, there is absolutely no hip dysplasia concerns, now that he's reached his 1 year mark and his hips have corrected themselves as we expected would happen.

Our orthopedic surgeon saw Paxton June 6, 2022 and confirmed he needs TPLO surgery on his right knee and that will happen July 18th, so we're hoping he's adopted prior to surgery, so he can recover at home with his forever family. Mattie's Place will cover the complete cost of surgery.

Paxton is a shedder, so be prepared to brush your dog on the daily.

He’s awesome in the car and quietly watches out the window.

His foster Mom says:

As far as lameness he has days he will chase squirrels in the back after a walk and runs laps around backyard. Other days he goes outside for walk /toileting and goes right the door to go in. Some days he jumps up on the daybed others he has to pull himself up. He's mostly good with a few off days here and there.

He'd be fine with older kids in a home.

He'd be fine with other dogs in the home.

He is crate trained.

He is low to medium energy.

He does not exhibit separation anxiety.

He does not have any guarding behaviours but he is in a current chew toy stage, so you'll have to stock up on chew toys, and was mouthing, but seems to be over that phase now, unless he gets REALLY excited.

Something your trainer will need to potentially work on.

He really is just a perfect dog, deserving of a home to call his own.

He is such a gentle soul. A good dog.

He can do all the basic dog things “paw, lay, roll, kiss, other paw”

As of today, though our protocols could change tomorrow, we are still moving forward with adoptions. Our process has changed from some of the previous elements: We are a registered animal welfare organization, so we are deemed an essential service. All paperwork completed online, video home visits, meet and greets outside respecting social distancing, leashes/collars/supplies wiped down and disinfected (GermiCide 3 wipes), disinfectant on the dog prior to handoff (Aqueos wipes for dogs)

-----------------------
To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in his current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen. We also do not claim, endorse, suggest or hint at, that any of our dogs are hypoallergenic, low shed or no-shed.

Adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, deworming, defleaing, vaccinations, food, nose to tail health exam, dog beds, toys, leash|collar, 6 months of preventative based on season, microchip
