My story

Meet Zuma

17 pound Zuma joined us from another rescue, when her adopters needed to return her for personal reasons and the rescue didn't have a foster available for Zuma.

Zuma is just a terrific dog.

Though we believe, with the guidance of a professional trainer, Zuma can overcome her barking excitement and learn to do better when greeting and meeting other dogs, for now, she'll do best living as the only pet in the home (she is indifferent to cats on the street, but we have not cat tested her in a home).

Once Zuma knows your kindness, she'll reward you with a lot of cuddles and snuggles. You just need to give her time to get to know you and also needs time to trust you before allowing you to pick her up.

Zuma is used to a lifestyle of living with her people being home, and though she's been okay for short stints on her own, a work from home adopter or an adopter willing to send Zuma to daycare would be best.

She's a senior dog, so a home without kids under the age of 13 would be best. Visiting kids are fine. But a lot of "kid busy" on a daily basis, likely isn't going to fill her soul.

Though she's 9 years old (DOB: 10/15/2011), Zuma is an active dog and wants to get out adventuring and exploring the world around her. She is great for couch snuggles after a fun day, but isn't a couch potato day in and day out.

Zuma will make an amazing companion to someone looking to put a bit of work in, to get huge rewards back from their dog, for the effort.

FROM HER FOSTER:

I have to say, Zuma has been the easiest foster that has come into my home. I love her!!!!!

Since she arrived, she has been almost the perfect dog. She has no issues that I have seen and has been a pleasure to foster.

She has absolutely no aggression issues with food or toys. She is very quiet in the house, doesn't get into anything she shouldn't and just loves just to lie by your side on the couch and watch tv.

Her favourite programs are Pitbulls and Parolees and Animal Cops Houston.

She has been nothing but loving and sweet since she arrived and NEVER any signs of aggression.

Zuma loves her walks and to be outdoors. She loves people and kids, always friendly but - she is reactive to other dogs. She will bark if she sees another dog, but never in an aggressive way.

I have been training her everyday on this issue and she is getting better and better. I got her down to a little whine when she sees them now. The trick is to re-direct her when you see a dog and she is easily distracted.

She does not seem to react to cats in the same way. Loud cars, fireworks or any big noises - no reaction.

Her reaction to dogs is the only issue in this almost perfect dog, but I feel this can be resolved quickly.
