My story

Ruby is a 7-month-old shepherd/Lab mix. Along with her brother Cash, Ruby came to us from a horrible situation where she lived in a crate outside and had to compete for food with her siblings. As you can imagine, she was dirty, smelly, and malnourished. Ruby was a little hesitant at first but quickly warmed up to the humans and dogs in her foster home. Ruby has put on weight nicely and is learning her manners. She is also doing well with her potty training. Ruby attaches quickly and will follow her human anywhere. She also gets along well with other dogs, big and small.

Animal Rescue Recon makes sure that each dog is current on its vaccinations, has been or will be spayed or neutered, and is microchipped to help keep pets out of the shelters and get them back home where they belong.

Additional adoption info

Our adoptions fees are determined to help recover our expenses put into the dog for vaccinations, spay/neuter, and microchip. The fee is normally $300 and in some cases could be less. We will perform a home-check and/or require pictures of your yard's fencing & gates. Typically we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 5 unless we know the history of the dog or have witnessed the animal's exposure and reaction to small children. If you currently own a pet, controlled introductions will be scheduled. Renters must provide a copy of their lease agreement which reflects the property's pet policy.

More about this rescue

Animal Rescue Recon, Inc. was established in September 2012 by a group of dedicated, hard-working animal lovers, all with a passion to make a difference and give unwanted animals a second chance. Based out of Oakley, CA, Animal Rescue Recon serves East Contra Costa County - an area that has minimal options for homeless or abandoned animals. Our all-volunteer group has various levels of experience in the field of animal rescue, but all have a heart for helping to find forever homes for our voiceless, furry friends. We have no paid staff - we operate solely on volunteers and services donated by members of the community and local businesses.
