My story

I’m Mel (short for Melody). I’m a beautiful, almost 3 year old grey and white polydactyl girl kitty. Polydactyl kitties have extra toes!! I have extra toes on my front feet. We polydactyl cats are very rare kitties indeed 😊. My name comes from where I was rescued with my kittens – the music building on a college campus. My beautiful tuxedo boy (Ernie) and I had a nice home once, but the family lost their jobs and had to move during Covid and couldn’t take us. Now we’re back in a foster home waiting for a new forever home.

Since I’ve lived with a family my whole life (except when I was lost on the streets for a while), I’m an indoor cat and love family life. Once I get adjusted to my new family, I’m just a big lover. Purr, purr, purr - that is me. I’ll drop and roll for you too so you can pet my belly – I just love tummy rubs. I like to play with toys since I’m still a young kitty. Cat condos are my favorite, especially on lazy afternoons. I sleep with my foster mom and follow her to the restroom for extra petting. It will take me a while to adjust to my new family and home though, so I’ll need a patient adopter. If you're looking for 2 cats, I’d like to be adopted with my son, Ernie, because we are best buddies. We groom each other and nap side-by-side in the cat condo every day. We would prefer to be the only cats too. But if you are only looking for one cat, I am such a chill, laid back girl, that would work too.

I’m already spayed and ready to go. So, if you can give us a second chance at a forever home and if you think I’d be a sweet, fun and loving addition to your family, it would be my dream come true to be a part of your family. You can call or text me at 602-757-9791 and ask for Deb. Or email me at drtweets2@msn.com I’ll be waiting to hear from you!

Additional adoption info

Complete an adopter application (email or text for a copy) followed up by a phone.interview. We ask about previous ownership of cats, dog doors, children, backup ownership in case of illness - the usual. There is a re-homing fee for all cats and kittens.. The potential adopter would come to the foster home to meet the animal and then a home visit. We return calls/texts/emails almost always within 24 hours even if the cat has already been adopted. We want to encourage adoption whether its from us or some other rescue.

Go meet their pets

By appointment only but we are very flexible and accommodating to meet people's schedules.

More about this rescue

We are a group of women and men who have volunteered in rescue for over 20 years each. We foster the cats and sometimes dogs in our homes with our own animals. This allows us to get to know the animal and what type of family would fit it. We also are the care givers for several community/colony cats at a local college. We've been doing this for years also. We have stabilized the cat population at the college and the only new cats arriving are ones abandoned there. We haven't had a litter in years!!! We TNR all the cats but don't return the tame ones as we foster these and get them new homes. We also educate friends and colleagues on finding new homes for their own cats if they can no longer keep them. We would love to welcome in other like minded people to foster, help trap, stock the feeder and water stations, and drive cats to the S/N clinics. We would also welcome any cat food donations for the feral cats.
