Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi! My name is Roxie, and I am IN LOS ANGELES looking for my forever home! I was rescue in South Korea and found my way to DoVE Project thanks to my rescuers that took care of me and made sure I got the medical treatment I needed. I am now ready to find my forever family!
VACCINATIONS/SPAY/NEUTER/HEALTH: Spayed. Distemper vaccine - Vanguard 5 Plus L4 5/6/22
BEHAVIOR: Roxie is very gentle and loves people and children. She loves to play with other dogs and loves the outdoors. She does have quite the prey drive and will sit and watch a squirrel for hours. Roxie would thrive in a home with another dog and a backyard. She is happiest when she can cuddle up with a human. She loves giving hugs and is especially happy when she gets tummy rubs. Roxie is always a popular pup at adoption events but people don't seem to want to take a chance on a pup that has some physical limitations.
BACKGROUND: Roxie was raised on a farm to hunt for wild pigs but was attacked when hunting. She was treated for her serious injuries and miraculously recovered completely. Currently Roxie takes medication to help her with her limp and slightly crooked walk. She seems to have pain when she overdoes a walk or is too rambunctious during doggie play dates. She has been examined by DoVE's veterinarian in the US and is expected to have a wonderful and full life. She will just need to take it easy with physical activity.
Roxie has had multiple temporary foster homes due to human travel schedules. She has been so resilient and has adapted so well to each home. Roxie desperately needs stability and would be such a wonderful pet to any family that can see her for the beautiful and loving pup she is. She is so worth it!
ABOUT SHELTER STRESS
Dogs who have lived in shelters for a long period of time develop behaviors due to an environment that is loud, chaotic, and stressful, even in best shelters in the US. Dogs in shelters have limited socialization exposure to people and urban environments. DoVE dogs also come from a traumatic background such as dog meat farms and slaughterhouses. While many of our dogs acclimate within a few months with consistency, structure, and patience, some of our more sensitive dogs can take longer to rehabilitate. It's important to note that these sensitive dogs are even more attuned to human emotions and behavior, making for a deeper connection human-dog connection. DoVE Project is committed to helping our adopters desensitize and socialize our dog meat trade survivors.
*********************************
DoVE Project operates a shelter in South Korea, where our dogs stay until they are matched with an adopter. In the US, our dogs stay in foster homes or in boarding, as we do not have a physical facility. These dogs are identified with "in LA" in their names.
Please note that we only adopt our pups in the Southern California area. Please check our website for more information regarding our adoption process, our mission, and adoption application: https://www.dove-project.org/adoption-process
