My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Woof! Hey there, hoomans! I`m Thaddeus, but you can just call me Thad. Let me tell you a bit about myself.

Every day, I`m here in my kennel, patiently watching as folks stroll by. I give them my best puppy eyes, hoping someone will notice me. You see, I`m an all-around heck of a guy, or at least that`s what my friends here tell me.

I`ve been waiting for my forever people for what feels like forever. I`m a pro at being a work-from-home companion, happy to nap away to the sound of keyboard clicks. Did I mention I’m also house trained and crate trained! I love learning new things and am eager to show you. Puzzles, toys, treats—I`m all in. I even posed like a champ for those studio photos.

I love being with my humans; it`s my favorite thing in the whole wide world! Outdoors? Oh yeah, count me in for an adventure. I`ve got stamina and agility—I`d make a great running buddy if you`re into that sort of thing. I`ve been surrounded by barking dogs while I have been growing up in the shelter, so I`m ready to be the solo star in your heart. And that’s okay because I know my forever humans will understand that.

I`ve got a sensitive side, you know. I`m not just your average pup in a kennel. I`ve been giving my best every day, one paw in front of the other, hoping that someone will see past the shelter life and into the loving, silly, and slightly exuberant dog that I am.

So, what do you say? Ready to make me your best friend until the ends of the earth? I promise, I`ll give you all the good energy and love you could ever need. Let`s make some memories together! Woof woof!

If you’d like to meet Thad, his volunteer advocates would love to introduce him to you.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
