My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nova is a young male homing pigeon who was likely a wedding release (a cruel practice where domestic white birds are released at weddings and then promptly die of starvation or predation). He was walking around alone in Central Park, coming up to people looking for food. Now that he's safe in a foster home, he is thriving with the company of other pigeons and becoming a healthy and confident pigeon! Nova is not scared of people although isn't a fan of being handled just quite yet. Because he lacks fear though, we think that he will become more and more social and friendly with humans in due time. He is very food motivated and loves to eat!. He also LOVES coming out of the cage to explore the apartment, and flying from place to place. He is absolutely comfortable flying around in the same room as humans and will even land on your head. If you toss some safflower seeds out (his favorite treat) he will come right over and gobble them up. Nova is also good at relaxing, and we love when he snuggles up in his nest or on his perch, and falls asleep using his soft chest as a pillow! Nova could easily spend half the day napping and looks SO cute when he does so. Nova would be a great apartment bird, but would also be fine in a predator proofed outdoor aviary. Either way, Nova should be with other pigeons. If you don't have other pigeons, consider adopting another bird from us or another group so they can be friends (or, better yet, mates).
