My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

***Sweet girl Lucy is living with a foster family in San Jose, CA. She is such a sweet girl who truly deserved to be loved. If you are interested in adopting Lucy, please fill out our application here: https://lifeofhopefoundation.org/adoption-application/
.
Lucy is a mixed breed pup from the US. Lucy had a loving family for 5 years. However, due to the pandemic, her family decided to move back to China and left her with a family friend. Her original owner thought that Lucy might have hard time adjusting to life in China and that she would be better off staying with a friend here. Sadly, this friend could not continue to care for Lucy. For Lucy, she all of a sudden became homeless. LHF decided to take over to help Lucy, and she is currently staying in a foster family.

Lucy is a smart little girl and likes to show her belly to get pets. She’s friendly to other strangers. When at home, if a stranger approaches the door, she would start with a low growl but would ease up to show her affection soon after.

At Lucy’s current foster home, there’s young couple with 2 little children (age 1 & 3) and 2 cats. Lucy gets along great with the children. She even stays by them and tolerate their rough plays. If she didn’t like the rough play from the kids, she moves away. She is quite gentle with kids. Lucy also likes the family cats, and enjoys their company. She does not chase or tease the cats. She sleeps next to them.

Because Lucy did not have much socialization experience growing up with her original family, she is a bit wary of larger dogs, and sometimes would even bark at them (to protect herself). She will need training and patience to learn to socialize with larger breed dogs. However, she tends to calm down very fast if the dogs she encounter are the calm and balanced type.

Lucy is a very loving girl and truly loves attention and belly rubs. Because she’s past the puppy stage as a 5 year old, she does not have destructive behaviors or showing separation anxiety when being left along in the house. She is good on leash. Lucy enjoys smelling the flowers occasionally and is quite pleasant to walk with. Lucy does not exhibit signs of food or resource guarding. When she eats her meals and the 1 year old child approaches, she would watch to ensure the child is ok and continues to eat her food afterwards.

Lucy does not like her feet being touched, including clipping her nails (like many dogs). When she first arrived at her foster home, we noticed that her nails had grown way too long, and even had bent. The long and bent nails affected how she would walk. It took the foster family a long time and patience to cut her nails. Even though Lucy was very scared of nail clipping, she only yelped and did not bite her foster family. We think with patience and some training, she could be conditioned to tolerate nail clipping.

Lucy is such a sweet girl who truly deserved to be loved. We hope that you would see past that fact that she’s not a puppy and give her a lovely home. We want to help Lucy find a forever home this time. She is currently being fostered in San Jose, CA. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions if you are interested in her.
