My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Coco von Felspar is a gorgeous, 6-year-old, long-haired German Shepherd. Please don’t be jealous of this lady’s long, beautiful hair – she’ll share all her secrets with you as she comes up to your side for some rubs and ear scratches. Coco just loves being the center of attention and soaks up all the attention and pets you want to give her. She is great on leash walks and is a real people-pleaser. She seems to be more into people than other dogs. Generally good with the dogs she meets along the way, Coco does seem to prefer male dogs (she walks away from the females). She’s a larger-sized, calmer girl who knows “sit” and will take treats gently from your palm. She is not a fan of cats.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
