AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - STANLEY

BREED - Lhasa apso/Poodle mix
SIZE - About 18 pounds
AGE - 3-5 years old
GENDER - Male
MEDICAL CONCERNS - Stanley came to us unable to walk in the hind end. It was determined, through a scan that he had an injured disk in his back. A local veterinary neurosurgeon performed a laminectomy and Stanley is back on his feet!
BEHAVIOR CONCERNS - None known
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Stanley was rescued by CARE after learning he had a back injury that resulted in him being unable to stand on his rear legs. Stanley had spinal surgery April 28, 2022 where a herniated disc was stabilized. We celebrate that Stanley has regained use of his rear legs and is now fully weight-bearing. He enjoys standing, walking, and playing with toys. Stanley will have life-long activity restrictions of no jumping on/off furniture or going up or downstairs. Stanley needs to keep all 4 paws on the ground. At 8-weeks post-surgery, Stanley has a bit of a “stiff” rear gait. His neurosurgeon feels this will continue to improve as he becomes more “aware of his legs and their position.” Stanley has demonstrated very good house manners and loves to follow his humans around the house. He is a joy.

Stanley has been given all his vaccines, been both neutered and microchipped, and tested negative for heart worms and tick-borne illnesses. CARE prefers a home for Stanley that will commit to his life-long activity restrictions. Stanley is fine with other dogs his size but does not engage in active play with them. We believe he would be best served with a family that walks every day that does not have young children and offers a fenced yard for activity.

Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Petfinder inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of the dog and our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and the dog at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting the dog and determining that it matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner. More information on our website at www.carerva.com.
