We are pleased to introduce Fancy. This little lady is a sweet and wiggly 4 and a half mth old Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog puppy who is looking for an active and adventurous forever home. Fancy’s salt and pepper coat and black markings are gorgeous, but that is nothing compared to the adorable wiggles she does when she sees her friends, dog or human. Fancy will be a medium/lg sized adult dog of approx. 40lbs when full grown.
Fancy and her brother came to Pound Dog after being discarded by their breeder. Initially, she was very shy, and she still can be, but she has made a lot of progress in her foster home. When encountering new things Fancy tends to be curious, but cautious, so her new home should continue to work on building her confidence slowly through training and exposing her to a variety of environments and sounds. When she does get scared Fancy tends to run so it is important that her new home has a fully fenced yard so she will remain secure even if she gets scared. Because of her energy levels, Fancy’s ideal forever home would be a house rather than an apartment or condo. Fancy would like direct access to a large, secure yard as running is one of her true loves and needs.
This little lady loves to play and run! Currently, Fancy gets 2-3 walks each day (depending on the heat) and we will be looking for a home that can maintain this level of exercise and build on this as she matures. She is still learning how to walk properly on her leash so starting training classes will be really important in order to ensure she develops good leash manners. The world is really interesting to Fancy so her foster family has been working on maintaining focus on walks and not letting her greet every person, even if she might want to! Fancy is not a couch potato dog, she is a working breed and will need lots of physical and mental exercise to keep her engaged. She requires a family or person who is already very active and athletic and will ensure that as an adult dog she is ran and worked and kept engaged like a herding dog requires.
Fancy is super smart, and when learning new tricks you can see her little brain trying to figure out what she has to do to get that treat. Her training in her foster home has been going very well. She already knows sit and down and she is working on stay and come. Her potty training is also going well; she is let out after her naps in her kennel and various times throughout the day so having someone home during the day would be ideal for Fancy. She has even started whining by the door to indicate she needs to go out. Fancy is also great in her kennel. She sleeps in there throughout the night and goes in multiple times a day for naps and rest. As Fancy is so smart and trainable we are looking for a family for her that is dedicated to obedience training, and hopefully some form of dog sport like agility or rally. We cannot stress enough that Fancy is a working breed mix and as such needs to be kept physically and mentally stimulated to be happy and emotionally stable.
Fancy currently lives in a home with an older dog and cat. She’s great with other dogs; however, she is still a puppy and is learning not everyone wants to play with her. If there is another dog in her forever home we think a younger dog who wants to play would be well suited to Fancy’s energy levels. Although she lives with a cat now she likes to try to get him to play with her which he does not appreciate. Usually, a firm ‘no’ and redirection to one of her toys is all it takes to get her to leave the cat alone. Fancy is pretty independent for a puppy and loves to play with all her toys, hopping from one to the next, throwing them to herself, and when she likes you bringing it to you for a little tug or fetch. Fancy also loves to chew! She likes bones, Kongs, stuffed toys, basically anything she can get in her mouth. So far she hasn’t chewed anything she’s not supposed to, but her foster parents keep a watchful eye on her and do not leave her out of her kennel unsupervised. Fancy is not being fostered in a home with children; however, currently she is working on not jumping up and just general control of her long legs and her mouth so a home with older children (over 8yrs of age) would be best.
Fancy is a sweet puppy who is still learning about the world. This smart and silly lady always brings a smile to her foster family’s face. She would be a great addition to a home who is ready to take on an energetic dog. If interested in her please take the time in the application to tell us about yourself and your activity level and experience with herding dogs, and what your plans would be for Fancy to ensure that she gets to be a happy, active dog living her best life!
