Java is our resident "old man". Only in the nicest way though. He's older for a pit bull sadly because there are so many young pit bulls waiting for homes the slightly older ones can go completely unnoticed.

For a real dog loving family though that has loved some very special dogs they will know how special an older boy like Java really is. Mature dogs have something special that young, wild puppies don't. Personality! Not to mention how incredibly sweet and personal these older dogs become and just how easy-going, eager to please and happy for simple comforts they are.

Java is just that dog. He's actually not that old, probably about 5-6. Sadly though due to a really hard past with no comforts, mostly isolation and being left to endure harsh conditions Java has aged physically more than he should for his real age.

Java sadly came from the largest dogfighting raid in the country that happened just this last summer 09. You can read all about it here

HSMO Dogfighting Raid

Java like all of the dogs seized lived there lives tied to stakes in the ground with sometimes no shelter or just an old plastic or metal barrel. They endured every weather extreme with probably never enough food or water and lived a lonely life of constant insolation and much, much worse for many. It's hard to believe Java lived this life for 5-6 years. A lot harder when you meet him and realize though in many ways he seems stunted and to be particularly innocent and clueless about all the things most dogs take for granted, he's still an unbelievably loving, sweet, happy dog!

Java has a heart of gold, truly. He is one of the nicest, friendliest, most loving dogs. He's so unbelievably grateful just to have a blanket and a bone. You'd think he lived in a castle and was waited on hand and foot now the way he acts just to be given some basic comforts. Everything in his new world is amazing and wonderful to him, he's just happy for this new life and second chance.

We can hardly imagine what he will think when he finds a home of his own and starts to really bond with his forever family. I don't think he has any idea it gets even better :), we can't wait to see this happen for our sweet boy.

Java has turned out to be truly amazing in every way. He's so easy-going and well behaved. For a dog that lived his life outside he's picked up housetraining and cratetraining like a champ. He's a pleasure to take for walks. He doesn't react to barking crazy dogs in their yards, he doesn't pull, he's just happy to be outside and by your side.

Java is also incredibly very good with other animals. He's still too clueless about cats and smal animals to know yet how well he'd live with them. That would take time and lots of supervsion. He's most likely had no exposure to them, but he doesn't seem interested any more than he is about anything else. He's curious, but gentle and easy. And so far he's proven to be very calm and friendly around all other dogs too. He doesn't understand how to play, he'll act excited and interested when dogs try to play with him, but that's as far as he goes. But he's content to be around them all and hasn't shown the slightest aggression.

Java would love an easy going home and family. He'd love to live the retired life. Cuddling, snoozing, lazy walks and the occasional round of fetch are all he wants. He loves just to hang out. Give him a big comfy bed and he'll spend most of his day lounging. Java is about as easy as you could get. He's probably love a home with older dogs his own pace that will keep him company, but not be too hyper and rough for him.

Java would be absolutely fine with most kids, though we will be looking for older, gentle kids that know how to be kind to dogs.

Please consider our sweet older boy. He's a true gem and will make someone special very, very happy. He's got a lot of love to give and he deserves to be really loved in return.

Adoption Requirements

*CPBR rarely makes same sex placements for purebred pit bulls, exceptions only for mixes and breed savvy, multi-dog experienced owners, all pets in the home must be spayed/neutered

*Adopters must be at least 25 years old (exceptions may be made for homeowners that show a history of stability and responsibility).

*We check property records. You must either be a home owner or get approval from your landlord and be able to provide us with contact info to verify that pit bulls are allowed.

*We are looking for responsible dog owners that can show they have done their research. These are people that undertand why pit bulls should not be taken to dog parks, left outside unattended, and why pit bulls should always be supervised with other animals.

Adoption Process

Requires references, home visit, contract and $150-$250 adoption fee depending on vetting and training provided . All dogs are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, heartworm tested and on preventative, health checked and microchipped at a minimum
