My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Quill (aka Quinn)

2 years old

Male

Maltese

House trained

Saved from a shelter after being hit by a car and suffering a broken pelvis, Quill, fondly called Quinn, by his foster family, never tires of celebrating his second chance at life!

The King of Cute, charming and cheerful, he always earns admiring glances from the people he passes when he’s out on his walks. Endearingly energetic in spurts and ever the entertainer, he enjoys chasing after a ball, often tossing it himself, rolling over on squeaky toys just to hear them squeak, wiggling on his back and putting his toys in a pile under the kitchen table (his safe spot to nest and rest).

He also enjoys taking rides in the car and sitting by the front window to watch the world outside, and should he bark at a passing dog, the command “LEAVE IT” soon stops it. Famously fond of chew toys, and highly motivated by treats, accepting them gently, he’s progressing well with his “sit” and “stay” commands on his walks and with “okay,” meaning “let’s go.”

Still learning to trust, needing to truly know someone before he allows himself to be snuggled and petted, he faithfully follows his fosters through the house as part of the process. But as his dependency on their company has grown, so has his anxiety away from them and his tendency to “guard” them. His fosters have, therefore, been working with him, slowly and patiently, to allay his fears and reduce this unwanted behavior, enabling him to improve and progress, paw step by paw step.

Recently, he’s begun retreating to the safety and security of his crate when he feels the urge to guard them, which is an impressive step forward! (He’s always slept soundly overnight in a covered crate). With much yet to learn and much joy to share, this dear and deserving dog will do best in a tranquil, adult-only home with a fully fenced yard for him to independently explore, play in and run in. Since patience and positive reinforcement, training and exercise morning and evening are essential to his ultimate success, so is working with a professional trainer. And so, Quill’s foster family has generously offered to fund his first training session.

Quill is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. To meet or adopt Quill, fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you shortly.
