My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet sweet Clementine! This gorgeous girl is a brindle bundle of love! She is a goofy, derpy, laid-back, girl that love cuddles! Clem loves love! The only thing that comes close to her love of cuddles is her love of fetch! She has a hilarious habit of playing keep-away! And this girl is SMART! She is very toy motivated and food motivated so training her should be fairly easy! She is a great girl deserving of the best forever home! Until her new family comes for her, we will enjoy all of the Clemen-time we have with her! Clementine would be happiest as the only pet in her home.

Sam is one of Clem's daily caretakers and she has quite a bit to say about this special girl:
"Clementine is a sweet, sensitive girl. She is a medium-sized dog and a skinny little thing. Clementine is one of our long-term residents, she has been here longer than I have been an employee. She would do best in a home without other animals (she likes attention, she wants to be an only child)!

Clementine was not dealt with a fair hand before coming to the shelter. She was found tied to a pole with a bag of dog food next to her. Due to these past circumstances, Clem tends to be fearful around men and may need some time to warm up to new people. Clem needs someone patient, understanding, and passionate about her. She deserves someone willing to take an extra step and be there for her, understanding that sometimes she has trouble out of fear and confusion. It can be hard for her to trust new people again due to her history.

I know Clem will have an immense amount of appreciation for whoever her person is. Clementine's adopter will be getting a loyal companion and she will be your best friend for years to come. Adopting Clementine would be giving her a second chance at life. She truly deserves to experience a life full of love, cuddles, adventures, new experiences, and a family who is proud to call her theirs. I hope she finds her person and you find her. She deserves everything good in this world."

Clementine can't wait to get out of the shelter and into a loving home! To help make that happen, her adoption fee has been waived!

More about this shelter

For over 20 years, the Humane Animal Treatment Society has been making Mid-Michigan a safer place for companion animals through innovative programs and community education.

The Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization that is independently operated, serving the Mid-Michigan area. HATS is contracted to be the sole provider of all animal care and adoption services at the Isabella County Animal Control facility. Each year we help nearly 1,000 homeless or lost pets; providing food, vaccinations, veterinary care, and a clean, safe environment while they await placement in their forever homes or a safe return to their owner. We also operate the HATS Health Clinic which provides low-cost spay and neuter services to help reduce animal overpopulation in our community.

Our organization relies on donations, local community support, and grant funds to allow us to continue our lifesaving services. Each day we make our community a better place for homeless animals by giving them a second chance at life with the opportunity to receive the medical care and behavioral support they need to make their way into a loving forever home. We continuously strive to educate our community on responsible pet ownership, provide support for pet owners in times of need, and as always, promote the humane treatment of all animals.
