My story

Approximate Date of Birth:2/1/2014

Toby is a very sweet, gentle cat. He loves to nap is quiet corners and just hang out by his human. He likes a calm house with plenty of observation spots, although he does enjoy spending time with other like-minded kitties. Toby loves to talk a lot and will trade loud purrs for head scratches.

Words to Describe Me: Sweet, docile, gentle

Favorite Place to Sleep: Somewhere quiet

Favorite Toy: Pompoms

Perfect Day: A nice bisque treat after breakfast followed by a nap in a quiet spot where he can observe the house. Afterwards some time with a kitty friend and then some pets and conversation with his human.

Kitty's Likes: Head scratches, base of tail scratches, talks with his human

Kitty's Dislikes: sudden movements, changes in routines

Fastest Way to Get Me to Purr: Bisque treats and base of tail scratches

Other Information: Toby has a heart condition that requires daily medication.

  • Good with Cats: Likes cats given a proper introduction.
  • Good with Dogs: Does not care for dogs.
  • Good with Children: Can live in a house with children over the age of 12.
  • Companion Animal: Not necessary.

Health information: All cats and kittens will be spayed or neutered, FeLV / FIV tested (as indicated by age), receive vaccinations appropriate for age, preventative deworming, and microchipping prior to adoption as appropriate by age.

Additional adoption info

We will adopt to out of state adopters but we do NOT ship animals under any conditions. You must come to us in person to meet the animal and make sure it is a mutual match. We have had many adopters come from the states around us and drive or fly with their new family member back.

Some of our "ready to adopt" felines are located at one of our Arizona PetSmart locations.

We also have a small satellite operation in San Diego with adoption events on select Saturdays at the PetSmart Escondido store.

We highly recommend applying in advance in order to increase your opportunity at adopting the kitty you are interested in. Applications are processed in the order they were received. If you have questions, please email

More about this rescue

Saving One Life is a completely foster based, volunteer run, never kill rescue. Our motto is that although we can't save the world, it makes a world of difference to the ones we do save.

If you find a litter of kittens or your cat accidentally got pregnant - please contact us if you are able to foster them at We cannot take in more animals without foster homes. All supplies and vet care will be taken care of - all you have to do is open your home and heart to them until they can find homes of their own!

All of our adoptable animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for felv/fiv (Cats), dewormed, and microchipped. Adoption fees range depending on the animal's age and breed. All adoption fees assist other animals in our care - we do not have any paid employees. We are a completely never kill group that provides sanctuary to any "unadoptable" animals that come into our care including hospice care.
