My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Howl-dy-ho folks! Bodacious Bodine here letting you know I am officially looking for my own home, sweet, home.

Just over a year ago, I was found hiding, sick with infections, loaded with parasites and autoimmune issues. My handsome face was raw, as were my feet, elbows and back end. Everyone thought my days were numbered, but that didn’t matter to The Animal Support Project. Even while I was in pain, they could tell I was a loving boy with a strong will to live, and they were determined to give me the best days they could before I moved on to the happy hunting ground in the sky. But yeehaw! Instead we discovered the root cause of my health problems was just allergies, and they are now under control. I hear modesty is an affliction some dogs suffer from, but not this joyful, gregarious “life-is-a-party” hound. Can you believe how great I look now? Those days are just a distant memory because I am doing fantastic - living large and lovin’ life!

I am a sincere, intelligent, eager-to-please kind of guy, but like all pups I blossom with a kind but firm, consistent human partner. I can show you how hard a dog will try to learn and do his best with positive reenforcement. In fact, as proof, I recently passed my Canine Good Citizen exam!

I have been told I have an endearing personality, and continuously win people over with my charm! I do adore attention and don’t always grasp the concept of personal space, but a gentle reminder, maybe with a bonus butt scratch, brings me right back to being a gentleman. I am definitely not a subdued city boy and need a country home where I promise to excel at fenced perimeter patrol. I am a scent hound so will be happy to alert, chase and tree any marauding varmints. If you stroll over to take a look and tell me what a “good job” I’ve done protecting my homestead, I will be so proud to have completed my mission, I will just want to hang out with you again.

Pack breeds like me are very social. I do not enjoy being separated from the rest of the household. I love all people, whether friend or stranger. I am young and still excitable though, and can occasionally be jumpy or mouthy, so I need a home with older children. I also am an exuberant player so would do best with another uninhibited dog, although I have done well adapting my play style to suit the smaller, older dogs in my foster home. I do not do well in a crate but I do respect gates and am also fine being left loose in the house. I will just enjoy a well-deserved siesta loyally waiting until my family comes back home.

I am quite a speedy fellow and can run like the wind if tempted by the right scent. I also am not road savvy because my head is usually down - due to my nose insisting on some serious ground sniffing. Therefore, I require a 4-6 foot sturdy fence because like most hounds, I also have wanderlust. That could be how I got lost in the first place and I never want to be that sore and sick again.

Do you savor in nature's glory like me? Like long walks or hikes? Like to play outside or snuggle on the couch? Do you have allergies or know someone who does and understand their significance? Want to love this good, ol’ hound boy forever? Contact The Animal Support Project to see if we would be a good match. http://www.theanimalsupportproject.com/contact-forms/ Thanks for listening y’all!

More about this rescue

The Animal Support Project was formed in 2005 after several volunteers assisted with the devastation of Huricane Katrina. Since that time, we have rescued many dogs and cats from hurricane ridden areas, supported local families in need, assisted with puppy mill raids, etc. Our main goal is to help families so they are able to keep their pets. We assist with behavioral issues and training to rectify the issue and, thereby, animal remains with their family instead of being surrendered to a shelter. We are an all volunteer group and survive solely on donations from so many animal loving people.
