Here's what the humans have to say about me:
JASPER....
This handsome boy is approximately three years old and needs help. His first vet visit revealed he has a grade 5 heart murmur, was anemic, had hook worms, has broken teeth with roots exposed and was Lyme positive.
It was highly suggested he see a cardiologist. The following is the outcome:
Diagnosis: Pulmonic Stenosis – severe, valvular. Thickened and fused pulmonic leaflets. Severe right ventricular hypertrophy.
This means that the heart’s right ventricle must pump harder to force blood into the pulmonary artery. The strain on the heart causes the muscular wall of the ventricle to thicken (hypertrophy). If the right ventricle cannot pump properly, heart failure develops.
Atenolol therapy would be helpful, but he needs to gain more weight beforehand. Atenolol is a beta-blocker heart medication used to treat certain types of heart disease and abnormal heart rhythms.
Surgery: Pulmonic valvuloplasty
A balloon valvuloplasty is a minimally invasive procedure and is a preferred treatment method for dogs with moderate to severe pulmonic stenosis. A small incision is made on the dog's neck or groin and a catheter is placed through the vein and into the dog's heart.
Without surgery he may have one to three years. Having this surgery will prolong his life immensely!! Success rate: 85-90%. Cost $4-6K
Jasper is available for "Foster to Adopt". We will be scheduling his surgery very soon. If interested, please submit an application. You won't be sorry you did.... he is just the sweetest boy you'll ever meet.
