Meet Rufus
This handsome young dog was surrendered when his owner could not take him when he moved. He is being fostered until we can find him his forever home. We hope that is soon, as Rufus is an amazing boy.
Rufus is a two-year-old Great Pyrenees mix. He is a handsome, handsome boy with a gorgeous cream- colored coat with brown/black markings. He weighs 74 lbs. He is as gentle as a lamb. He is good with other dogs and kids. We tested him briefly with kitties. He was not overly curious, but we didn’t want to push it too much when we first met him. He is shy with strangers when he first meets them, but quickly warms up with gentle reassurance. He is not aggressive with food or toys. He has not been a working dog and is comfortable in a home. He is nearly house-trained, but may need some remedial training and consistency. He spends his nights in a crate but would probably appreciate being with his hoomans.
Rufus will need a fenced yard to keep him safe. He is such a great young dog. He has been well taken care of and has been kept current on his basic vetting. If you are looking for a sweet, gentle, loving, affectionate young dog to welcome to your home, Rufus is incredible.

Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don’t receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-4135. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
