My story

One big cuddle bug!

Hi, everyone!  My name is Mia, and I’m a 4-year-old St. Bernard.  I’m a big girl, coming in at 115 pounds! I’m in great shape, health-wise, and I’m spayed too.

In my past life, I was used for breeding purposes, but thankfully, TAP came to my rescue when they found me abandoned in a car in Tijuana.  I’ve been loving life ever since, spending my days cuddling and giving all the love to my foster family.  I’m completely potty-trained, and I’ve been doing well on a leash and am making great progress with my pulling. Even the moon has dark spots, right? My pawfection has two. Reactivity to dogs when I am on the leash and counter-surfing. Soon I will start my muzzle training and preventing over-stimulation with new dogs that results in pulling with my mighty body. Slow introduction is key for my success with new dogs. With familiar dogs, I am quite chill, but supervision is advised. Let's focus on positive reinforcement and I will be better!

I’m just a sweet and loyal girl who absolutely loves people and kids! I also enjoy taking walks and getting lots of belly rubs.  I have mild separation anxiety when you leave and do just fine when I’m home alone, but I would much rather have human company as much as possible!

I would probably be happiest as the only pup in a mellow house, and should be around other dogs with supervision and muzzle.  Someone who has experience with larger dogs, and is willing to advocate for my happiness would be ideal. No cats, but I do great around kids. Really small kids might not be ideal, however, due to my large size.  So, do I sound like two paws up, or what?

The Animal Pad recognizes that taking in a new dog can pose a challenge to the entire family. Due to her size and leash reactivity, Mia’s adoption package includes a FREE four-week scholarship with our partner Goodpup (https://goodpup.com/). Goodpup offers virtual, individualized training to ensure you, your dog, and your family have the skills needed to thrive together. GoodPup Scholarships include:

  • 4+ weeks of positive reinforcement training

  • 24/7 chat for questions and support

  • Access to a behavior team to assist in advanced cases"

If you’d like someone to make you laugh and help you relax after a long day, I’m the gal for you!  My adoption fee is $200 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
