My story

Scooter is an easy going, happy little guy who always seems to have a smile on his handsome mug. He is on the laid back side and just likes to lay around and get belly scratches. Scooter is house trained and loves riding in the car.  He was surrendered to us because his owner traveled for a living and taking her 3 dogs along was getting to be too much. He is about 5 years old and weighs 50lbs; he could lose a few pounds though and that would be just fine.  He is good with other dogs and cats too, but older kids only.  Scooter tested positive for heartworms upon arrival and is undergoing treatment, but otherwise he is very healthy.  His HW treatment ends 9/2/22 and he will need to be on Heartworm preventative the rest of his life. If you would like more information, please call our shelter at 870-269-5200 or visit at 17379 Highway 9, Mountain View, Arkansas.  You can also complete an adoption application at schspets.org.

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
