My story

A YOUNG GUY STARTING TO BLOSSOM:  1 year old / 32 lbs.

Hi, I’m Comet!  I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and am glad to be here!  I don’t recall my past, but it may not have been the best as I am shy and scared of new things or things I don’t yet understand.  Thankfully, I’m in a good place now, learning to trust and getting to know how good life can be.  I’m currently in the prison/foster training program off site and learning a lot!  Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I'm available to meet.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  It took a little time, but I enjoy playing with the dogs I’ve met in the prison/foster training program, so if you have a nice dog at home already, let’s meet and see if we can be pals. / Cats unknown / I haven’t met kids yet, and we think that gentle/dog experienced kids would be best as I do startle easily, so let’s meet if you have kids like this that are not too young such as 10+.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am a new student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and can't wait to learn lots of new skills with my trainer!  As mentioned, I’m working on confidence building and the more I settle in the more comfortable I become!  I’m learning to play fetch and will run to folks I know for ear rubs and treats, so that’s good progress!  I’m also sweet and have a puppy nature (because I am still a puppy) so I can be playfully mouthy, but I respond well to gentle correction and redirection with a toy. You may notice that my left eye looks like it has liner on it, and I think this makes me look cool! / My energy level is about 4–6 in my foster home, but we expect it to increase as I get more comfortable and confident.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:   I am excited to be a new student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I am learning lots of great doggie commands with my trainer.  So far I have learned the ‘look’, ‘sit’, ‘down’, leave it, and ‘drop it’ commands.  In my temporary foster home I worked on the commands ‘inside’ and ‘outside’, and what the word ‘treat’ means.  I walk well on my leash and enjoy a quieter walking environment as I am cautious of new areas and need time to learn the routine.  I’m still settling in and I’m sure I’ll learn more – treats help! / I’ve been very good in my crate – in fact, it makes me feel safe and I go in it willingly and would like one in my new home to retreat to from time to time. / My potty manners have been good in my foster home!  They take me out on a good schedule.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I like stuffed squeaky toys, tennis balls and belly rubs. I can sometimes get a little overly excited with them when I play – not aggressively – just like a puppy, so my temp. fosters would have another toy handy to give me when I got a little mouthy.  Playing ball in the yard with my people is fun and I enjoy treats too.  I’m still learning what it means to be a dog and enjoy time with my people as I’m learning.  I love playing with the volunteers in the play yard and enjoyed the same in my temporary foster’s yard too, so I think it would be nice to have a fenced in my new home. / New things and new places are challenging for me so please give me time to settle in including on walks as we pass new things.  Thunder scared me when I was at the shelter, and loud cars and trucks driving by, so keep a good hold of my leash.  I would not be happy in a home where someone was harsh with me and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise and training.

• MEDICAL:   I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered.

I’m a wonderful dog in the making, looking for a family to help me continue to blossom and grow.  If that sounds like you, then let’s meet!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.
