My story

Rider (A196960) is a sweet boy who enjoys being around his person. Rider definitely has some border collie in him as he is a very smart guy that would do best in a home that can help keep him stimulated and entertained. Ryder is a happy and high-energy dog, and his enthusiasm for life would make Ryder a great running buddy. Ryder gets excited when meeting new people, but once he gets his wiggles out, he loves to sit for treats and pets.

Rider enjoys playing with other dogs along the fence but can be dog-selective at times in face-face meetings so may do best as the only dog in the home, or with an appropriate dog-friend match. Rider is still working on his leash manners but has been improving each day!

Ryder's exuberance wouldn't mesh well with young children, but older kids should be OK.
Ryder knows the 'sit' command, but he is an intelligent dog and would benefit from additional training.

Ryder would make a great exercising buddy and would love to have a job or the possibility to spend time in open spaces as a farm dog.

Rider weighs 70lbs.

Additional adoption info

*The shelter is currently open for adoptions by appointment only. Please email us at if you are interested in adopting. For other shelter services, please call us at (530) 668-5287* To adopt you must have a photo ID and proof of your current address. If not on your ID then bring in a bill with your name and your current address. If you rent you must provide a lease clearly stating the pet policy or provide a name and phone number for your landlord so that we may confirm the pet policy. If you own your home you may provide a mortgage statement or property tax bill for proof. You must be 18 years or older to adopt. If you wish to adopt a dog and have other dog(s) at home, please bring them with you to the shelter so that they may meet. Even if your dog is wonderful with other dogs, many of the dogs at the shelter have come in as strays so we have no history on them and need to be sure they get along with your pet(s). If you have any other questions, please go to or call the shelter for more information.
