Additional adoption info

Our goal is to find the purrfect forever homes for our cats & kittens, so we match them with their potential families based on personalities, lifestyle, etc.

Adoption process:

Complete an Adoption Application.
Once you submit an application, a volunteer will review your application, check your references, and contact you to conduct a phone interview with you about the animal and answer any questions that you may have.
If approved, we will then set up a meet and greet with the entire family during open adoption hours to spend time with the cat you’re interested in. (all persons living full-time in the household must be present during the adoption process).
If it's a match, we will then set up a date and time for you to take your furrever family member home.

**WTRF does not do same day adoptions to allow our adoption counselors time to call your landlord and vet references.

**WTRF does not do single kitten adoptions (unless you have a kitten of similar age already in the home, no seniors) or break up bonded pairs.

**WTRF only does local adoptions.

Adoption Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age or older
Have a valid form of id with current address
Provide landlord information and approval and a copy of the executed lease or show proof of ownership
Have proof of vaccines & spay/neuter for any other pets in the home

Adoption Donation Fee:
Adult Cats - 1 year of age and older $175
Kittens - $185.00
Specialty Breeds Or Cats with Extensive Vetting (Dentals, etc) - $250 and up

All of our cats & kittens are fully vetted. They are spayed/neutered, FIV/FeLV/HW tested, vaccinated (rabies and boosters), parasite treated, flea protected, and microchipped.

Go meet their pets

To meet with any of our adoptable cats you MUST fill out an adoption application first. You can see our process and all of our current available cats on our website at www.whiskersandtailsfoundation.org under the "Adopt" tab. We add cats to our website weekly as they finish with their vetting.

We are predominantly foster based, however, we do have cats & kittens that are available for adoption at the PetSmart Adoption Center located at 2665 N. Elston Ave, Chicago, IL 60647. We have open Meet & Greets with the cats at our PetSmart location every Saturday from 10:00am - 3:00pm

Our organizational mission is dedicated to reducing the suffering and overpopulation of feral and stray free roaming community cats through practicing Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and Trap-Neuter-Adopt (TNA) which results in a lower feral/stray cat population, ends needless suffering, lowers euthanasia rates and cat intakes at our local Animal Control facilities. We believe, as a community, it is our obligation to come together and be the difference in the community cat's lives.

Because we are a 501(c)(3) organization, All donations are fully tax-deductible. We do not receive any city, state or federal funding.
