Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Walter von Wetzlar is a beautiful, 3–4-year-old German Shepherd. This easygoing pup is a good boy in any scenario. Walter is great on his leash, where he heels nicely and enjoys meeting other dogs along his walking route. When it’s time to settle down, he’ll sit calmly by your feet and hope to get some ear scratches (he loves those ear scratches!). Walter is working hard on his commands, and he’s already mastered “sit” – this smart boy can’t wait to learn more! In his playgroups, Walter is a real pro. He explores the yard calmly and always makes sure he greets his friends as they come in for playtime. This good boy is looking for his forever family – he would love to review your application! (No kitties please.)

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
