My story

Ella or Ella Bella as we call her is a beautiful girl looking for an active home! Ella is 2 years old and loves to go for walks and car rides, she is very good in the car. She gets along well with most dogs, but prefers a playful but not overly rough playmate. Ella does chase cats so she needs a feline free home. In her previous home she lived with children and did very well with them, but will need to meet any children that will be in her future home. We were told she is a lab/rottie mix but she looks like she may have some coonhound in her bloodlines. Ella can be vocal when left alone so she won't make a good apartment dog. Being home with another dog may help her be home without her people. Her previous owner was home most of the time with her and this may be best for her new home as well. Ella has a lot of energy and will be great for walking and hiking with. A fenced in yard is best for her as she has taken off when allowed loose in her previous home. Ella is not liking the shelter life and needs to get into a home ASAP. If you would like to give this beauty a home go to our website spfldhumane.org and fill out an application. Please contact your vet to give them permission to speak to us so we can process you app. We are open by appointment only so we will set up a time for you to meet her once your application is approved.

More about this shelter

We're a small shelter in Vermont covering 11 towns in Windsor County. We have a small but very dedicated staff, and an active volunteer program. We have been rescuing cats and dogs since our inception in 1941, when a wonderful woman turned her barn into a shelter. Since then we've grown quite a bit and have recently redone our entire kennel area - we have sun tubes for natural light, radiant heat in the floors, a music program and an aromatherapy program. All through the generous donations of the public. Our cats live comfortably in community cat rooms where they are free to roam and climb and play - one cat room even has a fully fenced outdoor enclosure. We have acres of field for dog walking, and a small agility course set up in an outdoor kennel. We have a large puppy room, and a larger still puppy play area outside.
