My story

KING needs a home! His dad has taken ill and is no longer able to care for him. All he wants is for his dog to have a loving home. Meet KING!! a 5 year old 60 pound pit mix who definitely takes the crown for a-dork-able devotion! This handsome guy sure loves him some people. In fact, he follows his humans from room to room just to be near, snuggles and cuddles with all 60 pounds of pure love, and just stares adoringly from the couch for hours--taking 'puppy dog eyes' to a new level. King's owner rescued his loving companion not long ago, but unfortunately now has a very serious illness. So this royally special canine needs a hero once again. Ready for happiness to come bounding into your life? Then His Royal Adorableness is ready for you!
Like most rescues, King came to his current owner with some baggage--including some separation anxiety, as well as dog and stranger reactivity. King's owner, however, has worked hard with professional trainers to help his regal lovebug overcome these challenges--and King has been extremely receptive to his training. King has become much more relaxed when his owner leaves the house. He follows all basic commands (sit, stay, lay down, come, go to bed, etc.). As befits his noble status, King minds his manners on walks and heels and will follow commands when other dogs approach. However, he can display anxiety at times and his owner believes King has a history of being attacked by other dogs. Similarly, King can show affection right away with some new people, but may go into 'guard dog mode' with others. When King displays anxiety around certain new people and dogs, he will still respond to commands. King's owner however advises removing him from such situations before his anxiety can peak. Overall, King has made significant progress reducing his reactivity, but King's owner advises that King's new family continuously work with him in this area to reinforce the correct behavior. Overall, King loves to learn and adapts quickly to new routines and activities--especially if they involve yogurt or apples at the end.
King is neutered, up to date on all his shots, extremely affectionate, and loves to play. He doesn't realize how big he is however, so he may not be the best playmate for small children. King would also likely do best as an only dog. To meet this Awesome dog, please contact AmsterDog at 917-689-8414, or fill out our online application at www.amsterdog.org.
