My story

Meet Penny! This Black Mouth Cur / Labrador Retriever blend is 2 years old and weighs 34 lbs. Adopt Penny and you will be rich in playtime and puppy love.

  • General Behavior:  Penny can be timid with strangers at first, but with patience, love, and treats she is learning to trust humans.

  • Likes & Dislikes:  Penny LOVES playing with other dogs (even big ones). She also loves playing with toys and ripping them to pieces. Penny also enjoys  being outside, and exploring the yard. She prefers to play with other dogs rather then people as she is still shy around them.

  • Training: Penny is housetrained and crate trained. She walks great on a leash! Due to her shy nature she should be treated as a flight risk. She needs a fully secured and either chain-linked or wooden fenced yard as she will slip through metal bars. She sleeps in a playpen at night as she likes to chew.

  • Medical:  Penny is a healthy girl! She needs her monthly flea and heartworm preventatives, like any dog.

  • Other Animals:  Penny needs to be in a home with another dog to help give her confidence and security. She hasn’t been observed around cats yet, but her foster thinks they’d get along.

  • Children: Due to her gentle, shy disposition, Penny needs a home with no children or with calm, respectful, older children only (ages 8-10+).

  • Home: Penny would do well in a single-family home, a condo, or an apartment, as long as any yards are securely fenced. Fence needs to be either chain linked or wooden as this skinny girl can fit through metal/iron bars.

  • Grooming: Penny is shorthaired, so she should not require much elaborate grooming.

  • Overall: Penny will make an excellent companion for an active family who can give her the love and care she deserves.

A Penny saved is a lifetime of love, devotion, and adventures earned. Are you ready for that? Then visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with her foster family if it’s a match. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and spayed.  Her adoption donation is $375.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
