Here's what the humans have to say about me:
JR von Jungingen is a stunning, 6-month-old, long-haired sable German Shepherd/Husky mix. An exquisite looking pup with a luscious full coat, JR boasts top marks in personality. Larger in size and super sweet, he is a dream on leash. He meets dogs with a wagging tail and walks nicely with his handler. This young pup will be a great addition to an active family; he has the stamina to go the distance. As he learns commands, JR takes treats gently, so making further training a family event will make JR even better. Socially, we were told that JR loves kids and is quite family- oriented. Also, he is housebroken, travels well and is just the best companion. In playgroups, JR greets all the pups, explores the yard, initiates play and returns to his people for affection. He is more comfortable with friendly female dogs, so a home without an assertive male or a cat would be best for JR.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
