My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rey knows the way to your heart!

Hi, pals! My name is Rey. I’m an adventurous boy with a big heart. I’m still a pup at just 2-year-old and 55 pounds. I’m a healthy terrier mix who is already neutered. I was recently rescued just south of the border in TJ in a pretty bad shape and had a leg amputated. I am a tripod and have come out of my shell once my pain was over. I’m so happy to be in San Diego and can’t wait to find a family of my own!

I’m a pretty typical dude… I mean, dog! I love trips to the park, going on car rides, and hanging with my people. I just started muzzle training and picked it up very quickly, as I am so smart and now have had several meetings with new dogs. I haven’t met any cats or kids yet, so I’m not sure what I think about them. All in all, I’m a medium-energy boy who loves to be loved!

I’m a smart pooch who is quickly progressing with my training. I’m completely potty trained, and now crate trained. I thrive on having a daily routine and quickly adapted to my new environment. I don’t have any separation anxiety, but I’m always happiest when you’re around!

If you’re looking for a loyal, loving guy with just the right amount of playful energy– I’m the fella for you! I’d love to be with a person who can help continue my training so that I can be the best boy ever. So what do you say? Adopt Rey today! I am currently eating Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Adult Selected Protein PR Dry Dog Food. ~$100 for a bag.

"The Animal Pad recognizes that taking in a new dog can pose a challenge to the entire family. Due to his potential reactivity, Rey's adoption package includes a FREE four-week scholarship with our partner Goodpup ( Goodpup offers virtual, individualized training to ensure you, your dog, and your family have the skills needed to thrive together. GoodPup Scholarships include:

  • 4+ weeks of positive reinforcement training

  • 24/7 chat for questions and support

  • Access to a behavior team to assist in advanced cases"

My adoption fee is $200 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here:

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.
