My story

Meet Chevy. He is a fun, bouncy, lively, 2-year old Great Pyrenees mix. He loves to run and play with other dogs, and may enjoy playing with cats a little too much. (He thinks they are fun to chase, but he never hurts them and if they ignore him, he loses interest). The same cannot be said about flies - he absolutely hates them and will chase them haphazardly through the house. Chevy has had some bad luck in his life, and so he tends to be a little shy in meeting new people. After he warms up to you, he will follow you through the house, always wanting to be where you are. He is housebroken and doesn't chew on things he shouldn't. He is not a fan of the kennel, but is well behaved loose in the house. He will bark if he thinks he needs to (such as when someone knocks on the door) but usually one bark or two, and he's quiet again. Chevy is a big boy, about 70-pound. Because of his size and temperament he would be best in an adult household with one or two people. Introductions to any visitors or strangers should be very slow and controlled. Included in his adoption is a session with our trainer (local adoptions only).

Interested? Please visit dogsbydebin.com/adoption-application/ to complete our quick online adoption application. His adoption fee is $225 & includes: Neuter, microchip, vaccines, heartworm test, & deworming.

Additional adoption info

We have a Adoption Application located on our website at www.DogsbyDebin.com under the Applications tab. Each potential adopter is required to fill out. After the Adoption Application is reviewed, and requirements are verified, Dogs by Debin will contact adopter, and if eligible, appointment will be made to come in and meet our dogs. We try and list our adoption fees when posting our dogs. All of our adoption fees include: Age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, tested for heart worm (if positive, we treat them), and a free training session with our local trainer. If the adoption is a puppy, the training session will be at 4mths or older.

More about this shelter

We were developed based on the fact that there is a gap in the shelter system. The shelters that are open-intake, although they are doing the best they can, they can only do so much. Those shelters are also very stressful to the dogs & this is where we step in. You can consider our place a half-way home for dogs if you will. We allow the dogs to be dogs again, offering them behavioral modification, land to run on, playgroups & necessary vet care. With this being said, our adoption rate is sometimes slowed due to the fact the dog(s) may not be ready for adoption right away. We set our dogs up for success & match them with the right family. Our final goal is to have the adoptions last the dog's lifetime. Our #1 goal though is to have a dog stay in their current home, should it be safe. We offer counseling & resources to do our best to make this happen. When it's not possible, they may safely surrender the dog to us, provided we have space.
